Dr. Mitzi Joi Williams
Dr. Mitzi Joi Williams is a Board-Certified Neurologist and Fellowship trained Multiple Sclerosis Specialist who serves as the Founder & CEO of the Joi Life Wellness Group Multiple Sclerosis Center in Newnan, GA. She is considered a subject matter expert in Neurology, Multiple Sclerosis and Health Disparities. Dr. Williams has over 15 years of experience in the field of Multiple Sclerosis. She received her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and received her Doctor of Medicine Degree from Morehouse School of Medicine also in Atlanta, Georgia. She completed her Internal Medicine Internship, Neurology Residency, and Multiple Sclerosis Fellowship at Georgia Health Sciences University (formerly MCG) in Augusta, GA, where she received numerous accolades and served as Chief Resident of the Neurology Residency Program.
Dr. Williams has spearheaded and participated in multiple steering committees and work groups to further research in underserved populations with MS with a focus on the African American population. She has recently joined efforts to increase diversity in clinical trials and educate the community about the importance of research participation. Through collaborations with national and international committees, she advocates for people living with MS to share in the decision-making process with their healthcare teams to combat this disease. Dr. Williams is the author of “MS Made Simple: The Essential Guide to Understanding Your Multiple Sclerosis Diagnosis.” She continues to live out her mission to provide personalized Multiple Sclerosis Care delivered with expertise, compassion and joy.
SHANA GREEN
Shana is a public health professional with expertise in patient-reported outcomes. Her career spans 10 years to improve health outcomes and reducing health inequities through her work in the federal government, academia, and corporate industry. She currently works as a Sr. Research Scientist at Amazon Health Services where she leads patient-reported outcomes research for the pharmacy and tele-health businesses. She’s passionate about elevating the voices of patients, particularly of black people and women.
SONIA N. ATSEGBUA
Sonia Atsegbua is a proven nonprofit leader with extensive experience in relationship building, partnership management, philanthropy and program management.
Sonia serves as Director of Employer Partnerships at Basta, a NYC based tech-forward organization committed to bridging the employment gap between first generation college students of color and employers. In this position, Sonia drives the strategy and execution of Basta's partnership development approach, building strong employer partnerships and driving them at scale.
Prior to Basta, Sonia was the Director of Development at LEARN Charter School in Chicago, IL. In this position, Sonia led the fundraising strategy to secure $3M+ on an annual basis. Sonia started at LEARN as a first grade teacher before rising the ranks to become a top leader in the organization.
Sonia is a Chicago native and lives in New York City with her husband. In her free time, Sonia enjoys working out, traveling and trying new restaurants.
Ashlee Wisdom
Ashlee Wisdom is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Health in Her HUE, a digital health platform with a mission to reduce racial health disparities by leveraging the power of technology, media and community to improve health outcomes for Black women.
Wisdom holds over a decade of experience working across healthcare companies such as Weill Cornell Medicine, NYC Health + Hospitals, and Junto Health in leadership roles supporting a range of programmatic and functional areas including program development, recruitment and regulatory activities, and grants management.
Ashlee is a passionate public health innovator and a champion for equitable access to quality care for all. She is a Board Member for Peer Health Exchange. In 2022, she was named an Aspen Institute Healthy Communities Fellow and was honored by FemTech Focus with the First in FemTech Award. In 2021, she was named a Top 50 in Digital Health by Rock Health for her health equity advocacy. Ashlee also presented to the TEDx audience in 2020.
She holds a Master of Public Health with a focus in Healthcare Policy and Management from New York University’s School of Global Public Health and a Bachelor of Science degree in both Biology and Psychology from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
Ashlee lives in New York City and enjoys traveling, going to brunch, and riding her Peloton bike.
Dr. Denise N. Bronner
Denise N. Bronner, Ph.D., has roughly 15 years of organizational thought leadership experience within the global healthcare space and has held various roles in academia, consulting, pharma, and venture capital. During her career, she has specialized in health equity, data-driven global therapy program strategy development, pitch and storytelling refinement, and identifying business opportunities within pharma. Beyond her professional endeavors, she’s passionate about enhancing diversity in STEM fields, serving on advisory boards, participating as a judge in pitch/business competitions, and mentoring young professionals.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from Wayne State University, a Ph.D. in Microbiology & Immunology from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, and certification from the Venture Capital Executive Program from UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. She is the founder of Empactful Ventures, which currently consults healthcare-focused startups and venture funds, she is a member of the Clinical Leader editorial board, and a Board Director for healthtech startup KnowRx.
Dr. Huiam Mubarak
Dr. Huiam Mubarak (“Who-yam Moo-Bar-ak” ) is a Board-Certified Neurologist and Fellowship- Trained Specialist in Neuroimmunology. She serves as the Assistant Director of Barrow Global and an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Mubarak has built a solid academic background, earning a bachelor’s degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from the University of Connecticut, a master’s in Biomedical Science from Barry University, and a Doctor of Medicine from Indiana University School of Medicine.
During her Neurology Residency at the Barrow Neurological Institute, she distinguished herself as Chief Resident before completing fellowships in Neuroimmunology and Global Neurology.
Beyond her academic and clinical contributions, Dr. Mubarak is deeply committed to community engagement and patient education. She has spearheaded initiatives like the Multiple Sclerosis Empowerment Summit, designed to empower patients and families with the latest knowledge and advancements in MS care. Her leadership extends to co-chairing the Barrow Neurology Clinic at St. Vincent de Paul as a resident, where she now serves in a faculty volunteer role, further enhancing training and improving patient care.
Dr. Mubarak’s unwavering dedication to improving access and equity in neurological care is
evident in her advocacy for diversity in clinical trials and her focus on addressing health disparities globally. By combining community engagement, compassion, and a patient-centered approach, she strives to deliver and promote exceptional neurological care, regardless of her patients’ circumstances or locations.
Paris Jackson
Paris Jackson, a native of Vallejo, California, is a dedicated philanthropist and investor with a passion for enhancing the lives of others. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunications Management and Business Administration from Howard University.
Paris currently serves as the Senior Manager of Restaurant Support at CAVA, a leading Mediterranean culinary brand, where she oversees technological implementations and support for over 350 restaurants nationwide. At CAVA, Paris has played an integral role in the company's growth—from its early startup phase, through a significant acquisition, to its eventual public offering. Additionally, she is the co-founder and board member of the CAVA Network of Women (NOW), an organization that fosters diversity and community among women leaders through impactful events and practical business workshops.
Paris's commitment to philanthropy is evident through her active involvement in initiatives aimed at improving the lives of others. During the global pandemic, she served as a transformation coach, empowering individuals to create the lives they envision. Currently, Paris volunteers as a mentor for at-risk youth with the Best Kids Organization in Washington, DC. Beyond her philanthropic efforts, Paris is passionate about building generational wealth and assisting families with estate planning. Her enthusiasm for life and dedication to giving back to the community align seamlessly with the mission of We Are ILL.
As a member of the Board of Directors for We Are ILL, Paris brings a wealth of expertise in strategic planning, process improvement, and fundraising initiatives. Her professional experience, coupled with her philanthropic spirit and steadfast commitment to empowering women of color, makes her an asset in advancing the organization’s mission to support, educate, and unite Black women diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
